Toronto Select School™ Report - Overview
This is a comprehensive 53 page, 2 part, report. See how Toronto elementary and secondary schools compare within thirty-five Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) areas/neighbourhoods (map below) on the provincial EQAO math and literacy assessments across multiple years.  Covers Toronto public and catholic school boards in a two part report, ordered separately.

Missing Schools? Schools must have at least three years of test results to be rated. Some small schools (exempt from EQAO tests) and many new schools are thus not rated. Middle schools (with only grades 7 & 8) are not tested by EQAO and are therefor not rated. Please report any errors or omissions or suggestions to us so we can improve these reports.

Toronto Select School Report  - Two Parts in five Sections:

Part1 - Public Schools (39 pages)

Section 1: Toronto Public Elementary Schools - 20 pages - See Sample

Section 2: Toronto Public Secondary Schools - 4 pages - See Sample

Section 3: Toronto Public Schools - The Connections & "Sweet Spots" - 15 pages - See Sample

Part 2 - Catholic Schools (14 pages)

Section 4: Toronto Catholic Elementary Schools - 11 pages - Same format as Section 1 above.

Section 5: Toronto Catholic Secondary School - 3 pages - Same format as Section 2 above.

Note: Catholic school boards do not match exact addresses to a family of schools as do the public school boards. Proximity to a school is a factor in the admission but cannot be pre-determined. These reports assume that all primary schools are "connected" to all secondary schools and so a "sweet spot" is simply an area with a sweet (high quality) school (elementary or secondary).

 More Details

PART 1 - PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Part 1 - Section 1: Elementary Public School Ratings  -  Sorted Alphabetically by School

Shows the Toronto District School Board public elementary schools (466) using their scores on the provincial EQAO assessments. The results are summarized in a table with "% of students passing" (Pass Rates) for Reading, Writing and Math - Grade 3 and Grade 6. These current scores are averaged over four years. The Fraser Institute scores are shown but not used in the determination of a "sweet spot" The C.D. Howe "Percentile" 2007 for Grade 3 and 6 are shown and a minimum 50% percentile is used to determine a "sweet spot".  "Sweet Spots" are also shown (see below). These important scoring and rating elements are explained in the legend included with each report section. PDF, 20 pages.

Part 1 - Section 2: Secondary Schools  - Sorted Alphabetically

Toronto District School Board secondary schools (104) are rated on their scores for math and literacy scores across four years using the provincial EQAO assessments for literacy and academic math. The results are summarized in a table.  "Sweet Spots" are identified. PDF, 4 pages.

Part 1 - Section 3: Toronto Public Schools  - The Connections & "Sweet Spots"

This section shows you which elementary schools are connected to which secondary schools. This connection is determined by the school boards to balance the student attendance and is based on street addresses. Where you live determines both the elementary and the secondary schools that serve you. High scoring sets of schools are identified as "sweet spots" - see below. PDF, 15 pages.

PART 2 - CATHOLIC  SCHOOLS

Part 2 - Section 4: Toronto Catholic Elementary Schools (2006)

169 catholic primary (elementary) schools are rated using the same method as the public schools explained above in section 1.  PDF, 11 pages.

Section 5: Toronto Catholic Secondary School

32 catholic secondary schools are rated using the same metod as the public schools explained above in section 2. PDF, 3 pages

"Sweet Spots"

The Select School™ Reports are unique and unavailable anywhere else. We are the only source that  identifies school "Sweet Spots" (a term we coined).

"Sweet Spots" are very rare combinations of elementary schools and high schools that are matched sets both of high quality. There are only a handful of Sweet Spots scattered across Toronto. You have a slim chance* of picking a sweet spot by guessing. Our reports make it easy to zero-in on these areas to pick your schools (along with your new home).

Sweet Spot = Elementary School (sweet)+Secondary School  (sweet)

The reports explain the details of how a sweet spot is determined.

*1 chance in 10 of picking a public school sweet spot by chance

and

*1 chance in 5 of picking a catholic school sweet spot by chance

Why rely on chance - use Select School Reports to find the best schools for sure

Gifted Programs & French Immersion

Information on schools offering gifted programs and French Immersion programs is included in our reports.

How will You use these Reports? - Home Selection Perhaps?

Many parents use our Select School™ reports to decide where they might (or might not) want to buy their next home.  If you are not moving, get involved for your children.  School quality impacts the resale value of your home by some estimates as much as  25-30%

These reviews will show you how each school has performed on the standardized Provincial EQAO math and literacy tests and how this compares with other schools and to the Provincial Standard.

Select Schools reports now include a true measure to fairly compare schools (The C.D. Howe Percentile). This new measure has only recently become available (March/2005) and takes into account the social-economic differences between schools. The major challenge to comparisons has been eliminated.  Now parents can fairly judge the schools that are performing well and those that have challenges and need attention.
