School Sweet Spots
™ – Making the Right School Connections
Each secondary school serves a select group of elementary schools within carefully defined (but difficult to locate and changing) areas or boundaries (a.k.a catchment areas). Parents must check the boundaries before making any final decisions on selection of their homes and or schools. You can use the School District websites to do this. We will do this on request for our real estate clients. In any case, our reports will greatly simplify your selection process by giving you the big picture quickly and easily. Then you can get into more detail as you please. We help our clients with this part if they wish as well.
A Sweet Spot is a rare combination of a good quality elementary school connected to a good quality high school. They are very rare combinatons
Sample Report - Toronto Sweet Spots and Connections
The sample report illustrates how you would see in your purchased reports the areas that have Sweet Spots with highly rated high school and elementary school combinations. For example,There is only 46 (out of 466) sets of elementary + high school combinations, or as we call them "sweet spots" in all of Toronto District School Board. That is only 1 in 10 or 10%.
Alternatives
Not all areas have Sweet Spots
but there are usually alternatives if you must (or already do) live in these areas. For instance, you can apply to the school board to attend a school outside your served area where you might be accommodated after students from the area are assigned seats and they are still “open” to applications for that school. Areas that have a primary school with a Pass Rate of 70% or better for BOTH Grades 3 AND Grade 6 (Literacy & Math)
AND where the C.D. Howe Institute Percentile is at least 50% for BOTH Grade 3 and Grade 6

AND where the school is connected to at least one Secondary School that is rated High Quality.

There are only 18 (out of 131 primary schools) that are in Sweet Spots in all of York Region. That is only 1 in 8 or 14%.
Sweet Spots are hard to find without these reports. Other areas covered, Toronto District and Durham Region have the same challenges.
